Emeraldcord (/ˈɛmərəld/ /kɔːd/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Large City located in Fairlight Dutchy, Swalehore Earldom, within the Sylvanian Empire.

The name Emeraldcord is derived from the Sylvin language, as Emeraldcord was founded by Zlêlêl Slater, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Emeraldcord has a yearly average temperature of 18°C (64°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a warm 27°C (80°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cold 9°C (48°F). Emeraldcord receives an average of 122 cm/y (48 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the spring. Emeraldcord covers an area of nearly 271 km2 (108 mi2), and an average elevation of 3810 m (12500 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Emeraldcord was founded durring the early 13th century in summer of the year 1224, by Zlêlêl Slater. The establishment of Emeraldcord suffered from several major issues, resulting in the need to develop many solutions to basic problems. Problems such as a lack of fresh water, logistical support, poor quality tools, and the odd monster or two. Howeaver, these were overcome in time.

Emeraldcord was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the early 13th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Emeraldcord is no diffrent. The city's buildings feature plaster covered brickwork used to form structures with an emphasis on symmetry, proportion, geometry and the regularity of parts. Orderly arrangements of columns, pilasters and lintels, as well as the use of semicircular arches, hemispherical domes, niches and aediculae can be found everywhere such that only size of building and yard can be used to measure the general prosparity of a given building's owners due to a general wealthy feeling the style gives off.

Emeraldcord is buildings folow an organic layout of narrow flagstone streets whihch gives the city a shape simmilar to a tree, if one views its streets from above. The city resides behind a palisade wall complete with battlments, a moat, and timber gatehouses with drawbridges. The city's robustly designed timber walls have recently undergone extensive repairs and renovations, such that the repairwork is imeadiently apparent and can be spotted due to the diffring ages of materials. One can't help but wonder what brought the need for those repairs to the city.

A look arround Emeraldcord reveals an abundance of schools, libraries, and other academic structures. Locals can be overheard having academic discussions, as well as talking about scholarly subjects in general. It’s quite clear the city places a lot of value on education and being a learned individual.

Emeraldcord has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Emeraldcord possesses a Galvanic Power Grid, which brings galvanic current to most if not all buildings in town, and permits a great many consumer goods to function within the Large City. Emeraldcord's grid is powered by a boiler and turbine based power plant.

Emeraldcord possesses an older civil lighting system consisting of street lamps. In spite of the Galvanic Grid, these lights continue to use their old fule sources to provide nighttime illumination to all city streets.

Emeraldcord has a first rate hospital which caters to anyone in need of long term medical care.

Emeraldcord has a library, which keeps a large collection of books, scrolls, and archives all manner of physical items. While not open to the public, the librarians and scholars employed by the library will assist anyone with their research needs, and wealthy individuals can purchase membership to access the library's materials themselves. In spite of being generally closed to the public, the library has a room with several Aether Linked devices available to the public during business hours.

Emeraldcord has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands. They are not to be confused with the Office of Civil Groundskeeping as they do not hold authority over nor responsibility for Emeraldcord's natural decorations nor waterways.

Emeraldcord has a Guild of Roadworkers, who are responsible for maintaining the roadways and public paths within town. They also have the duty of enforcing all civil laws relating to the roadways.

Emeraldcord has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Emeraldcord has a public septic system, which allows its citizens to have indoor bathrooms. The septic system is overseen by the League of Sewerkeepers, who posses the legal authority to enforce all laws relating to the septic system, and are also tasked with its maintenance and upkeep.

Emeraldcord is home to a University which provides higher education in a variety of fields, and also serves as a research institute for those same fields.

Cultural Notes

Emeraldcord's town hall was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used which employed abundant symbolic geometry, using pure forms such as the circle and square, and plans are based on often symmetrical layouts featuring rectangular courtyards and halls. These structures were is decorated with carved stone or stucco reliefs and made use of colorful stone mosaics..

Due to the actions of local Kami, spring is long in Emeraldcord.

The Atomie near Emeraldcord are known to be more aggressive than normal.

Emeraldcord's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in summer and involves ritual combat to channel Elven High Magic energies of tier 2 via recitation of poetic epics.
